Head Coach
Chris Shives

Chris Shives begins his fourth year as head coach of the men’s and women’s golf teams. In his three seasons, he has sent the men to their only two appearances at the NJCAA Championship and has sent 7 individual qualifiers to the Women’s NJCAA Championship. The 2008-2009 season was the best in school history for both teams. The Men finished 16th at the NJCAA Championship and finished in the Top-3 in 7 of their 11 tournaments. The Women fell just short of qualifying as a team for the NCJAA Championship. Candace Harless and Andrea Richter made return trips to the Championship. Kaitie Meyer had an outstanding freshman campaign, winning 4 of the 5 tournaments in the fall, including the Region XI Championship. Both the Men and Women broke every team scoring record, in addition to many individual records.

Before coming to Iowa Western, Shives was an Assitant Professional at Tara Hills Golf Course in Papillion, Nebraska.  He handled the course management and ran the Papillion Junior Golf Academy.  Shives is a 2004 Graduate of Adams State College in Alamosa, Colo., where he was a four-year letterman for the Grizzlies.  As a member of the golf team he was a four-time Acadmeic All-Conference Selection, a member of the 2004 All-RMAC Golf Team and a founding member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee at Adams State.  Follwoing his amateur career, Shives participated in professional events throughout the Midwest.

Chris currently resides in Council Bluffs with his wife Nicole, an Assistant Athletic Trainer at Iowa Western.
