Jim Morris begins his 33rd year of coaching, and 28th at the collegiate level. He is beginning his 15th year as Iowa Western's head basketball coach. In his first season at Iowa Western, Morris was confronted with taking over a program that did not field a team the previous year. Since that inaugural year, Morris has guided Iowa Western to a 302-155 record overall, collecting his 300th win as Iowa Western's coach on 2/10/09 against Central (NE). In the 2004-2005 & 2005-2006 season's; Iowa Western owned the distiction of being one of only two programs in the nation to finish in the top five both seasons. The Reivers reached the 'Final Four' in the national tournament and ended the '05-'06 season ranked #4 in the country (IWCC finished ranked #5 in 2004-2005). Coach Morris was named District Coach of the Year both of those seasons. Under his lead, the Reivers reached the Region XI finals 5 straight seasons between 2003-2008, winning twice. Baketball Times Magazine recently named coach Morris' Iowa Western teams as the nation's 17th best junior college basketball program of the decade since 2000. In 18 years as a collegiate head coach, Morris has on overall record of 381-206, an average of over 21 wins per season. His record as an assistant coach was an impressive 255-58.

Coach Morris came to Iowa Western from Colby (Kansas) Community College where he took over a program that had not had a winning season in five years. In four seasons at Colby, Morris guided the Trojans to 20-win seasons three times. His 1992-1993 team won the Kansas Independent Championship. Prior to Colby, Morris served as an assistant coach at Barton County Community College in Great Bend, Kansas. During his four-year stint at Barton County the Cougars won 109 games and lost just 27. During Morris' final season at Barton County, the Cougars placed third in the NJCAA National Tournament, the first tournament appearance in school history. Before his stop at Barton County, Morris was the assistant coach at Moberly Junior College in Moberly, Mo. Morris assisted Dana Altman, currently the head coach at Creighton University. The Greyhounds finished third and sixth in the NJCAA National Tournament during Morris' three-year stay at Moberly.

Morris began his college coaching career in 1982 as an assistant coach at Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, Ne. While coaching in Lincoln, Coach Morris completed work on his master's degree at the University of Nebraska.

Jim is a graduate of Stella Southeast High School in Stella, Ne. Jim and his wife, Beverly, a physical therapy assistant with Rehab Visions, have four daughters: Allison and Ashley (twin 23-year olds), Jennifer (18), and Taylor (11).
