In May of 2008, Jordan Carver joined Iowa Western Community College’s (or IWCC’s) Reiver Soccer Coaching Staff. Originally a native of Utah, Coach Carver made his Iowa Western debut as a student-athlete in 2004. During his inaugural season, Coach Carver scored five goals and had five assists from the central midfield position. His offensive contribution and scrappy defense brought him Region XI First Team honors. It was then, in his first year, that Carver realized the future success of Reiver Soccer. Since then, Iowa Western Men’s Soccer has won Region XI (’05 and ’08) and finished second at districts (’05 and ’08) twice.
As the men's and women's assistant coach this past 2008 season, Coach Carver helped lead the Reivers to their first ever dual Region XI titles. The Reiver Men finished with a 14-4-1 record while the Lady Reivers finished with an 18-3-1 record. As the men’s trainer in 2008, Coach Carver helped orchestrate the men's training sessions from the technical to the tactical instructions. He helped prepare the Reivers for a record-breaking season by topping the school record for the total number of wins in a season with fourteen and fewest losses in a season with four.
Coach Carver instructed the Lady Reivers as well, in both technique and tactics, pushing them to a #1 spot on the NJCAA polls for four weeks straight, and starting the season with 10 straight shutout victories. Although the Lady Reivers’ season looked destined for a third National Championship Finals appearance, the Lady Reivers lost to the 2008 National Champions Lewis and Clark in the semi-finals of District C, which Coach Carver, unfortunately, could not attend due to his responsibilities with the men’s team at the district finals.
Coach Carver enjoyed his years as a collegiate soccer player. In 2000, Carver played his freshman year at William Penn University, under the direction of former WPU and IWCC Head Coach, Ammon Bennett. The summer before joining Grand View College’s soccer team, in 2006, Carver played a season in the Premier Development League with the Ogden Outlaws (Ogden, Utah). During his season with Ogden, Carver contributed to the Outlaws first appearance in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. As a Grand View College Viking, Carver helped his team advance to a quarter-final finish in the 2006 NAIA National Championships as well as a first place finish in the Midwest Collegiate Conference. In 2007, Carver co-captained the Vikings to another first place finish in the MCC. He also was nominated to the MCC First Team and became a NAIA Academic All-American.
The global, inter-cultural aspect of soccer has always been exciting to Coach Carver. Beginning at the age of 14, Carver has been able to play soccer in Italy, England, Sweden, Hungary, Canada, and Brazil. His international experiences have been as diverse as the places he has been, from street soccer in Hungary to competitive adult leagues in Brazil. As a coach, Coach Carver intends to keep a global perspective with his team.
Carver received his B.A. in History from Grand View College in April of 2008. Carver currently holds his USSF B License and NSCAA National Diploma. His prior coaching experience has been at the high school and club level.
