Assistant Coach
Michael Johnette

Michael Johnette begins his fourth season as an assistant coach with the Reivers, his ninth in junior college, and eleventh overall as an assistant at the college level.

Since joining Jim Morris' staff in 2006, the Reivers have reached two Region XI finals, won an ICCAC regular season championship, compiled a 75-23 record (76.3% winning percentage), and have been ranked in the NJCAA Top 20 all three seasons.  While at Iowa Western, Johnette has coached and recruited 15 players who have later moved on to receive scholarships to attend four year programs, including 9 of those to NCAA division I institutions.

Before arriving in Council Bluffs, Johnette spent the previous five seasons coaching another traditional junior college power at Hutchinson Community College (KS) under head coach Chad Wintz. While at Hutchinson, the Blue Dragons composed a 111-39 record (an average record of 22-7 per season) and won the 2003-2004 Jayhawk Conference title. Johnette also coached and recruited 15 Division I transfers during that span. He served as a graduate assistant under Wintz at Fort Hays State University, where he completed his master's degree in HHP Administration. During that time the Tigers went 41-15, won the 2000-2001 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference title, and reached the second round of the NCAA Division II National Tournament.

Johnette finished his playing career after senior and junior campaigns at the University of Nebraska. He played on the Cornhuskers' 1998 NCAA tournament team that participated in the West Regional in Boise, ID; which to date is the last NU team to compete in the NCAA tourney. A two-time letterman for the Huskers, Johnette completed his bachelor's degree in exercise science in 1999. A native of Omaha, NE., Johnette is no stranger to junior college basketball. Michael began his college career playing two seasons at Cloud County Community College in Concordia, KS.. Johnette started on the 1996 Thunderbird team that won a still current Cloud County program record 27 games, was the Kansas Independent League Champions, and advanced to the semifinals of the Region VI playoffs. While at Cloud County, Johnette met his wife, the former Cherish Ebert of Salina, KS. They have one son, Trenton (5) and a daughter, Madison (1).

Morris on Johnette: "I am very pleased to have Michael on our basketball staff. He has coached and played under some very good coaches. Michael brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience. He has proven to be an excellent on-floor instructor as well as a solid recruiter. He is as good as they come at scouting opponents, which has proven to give us a huge advantage in our games."
