This past Saturday, the Iowa Western cross country teams competed in their regional championship meets. The races were held in Peoria, Illinois on a golf course which rain had turned into a mud pit. Braving the slippery conditions to become region champion was freshman Isaiah Samoei who ran a time of 26:41. The Reiver's two through four runners, Nick Reynolds, Nathan Carr, and Kyle Blue came in separated by only twenty six seconds to take 4th, 5th, and 10th place, respectively. Justin Hazard, Bryant Rader, and Garland Bennett comprised the remainder of the IWCC top seven. The Reiver men fell a mere three points shy of becoming the team region champions as they were edged out by Iowa Central 38-41.

The Women's team achieved a 3rd place team finish on the same soggy course. The team was led by Kaylee Fly who ran aggressively the whole race to earn herself a 7th place ( 21:02)overall finish. She was followed by a slew of fellow freshmen. Gladys Downing (10th 22:01), Sarah Jepleting (16th 22:36), Melissa Groce (17th 22:42), and Dana Miller (18th 22:42) made up the rest of the top five. Running in the displacer positions were Nicolia Edwards (21st 22:57) and Madison Brummer (22nd 23:24). The team score total was sixty eight points,  five points out of 2nd.

The two teams compete on the same course in two weeks at the NJCAA National Championships.
