With their final regular season game resulting in an 11-0 shutout victory over Grand View University (JV), the Iowa Western women's soccer team completed the season with an undefeated record of 15-0-1. This marks the first team in Iowa Western women's soccer history to complete the regular season without suffering a loss. In route of this tremendous feat the Reivers have produced 97 goals, 85 assists, 279 total points, 10 shutouts, and have outscored their opponents 97-10.
"This is a team that has proved to have a lot of heart and desire" said head coach Brad Silvey. "We have overcome a large amount of adversity throughout the season and to walk away undefeated is quite remarkable." The closest the team came to defeat this year resulted in a tie on the road against No.14 Butler Community College with the Grizzlies overcoming a 2-0 deficit and tying the game with 40 seconds remaining in the contest. In addition to Butler, the team competed against three nationally recognized opponents during the season outscoring them 7-1.
As the post-season quickly approaches, the Reivers will enter the Region XI Tournament as the No.1 seed matched up against the No.4 team determined by a playoff game between Scott Community College and Indian Hills Community College. "The post-season is a fresh start for every team" Silvey points out. "The regular season quickly fades as every team has the opportunity to advance. Every team is at their best and wants the same result. It's exciting! This is what we work toward all year."
The Region XI Tournament will be held at the Cownie Soccer Complex in Des Moines, Iowa, October 31 - November 1.
