2017-Ward Hylett Invite


The Reivers opened up the indoor track and field season at the annual Ward Haylett Invite at Doane College.   The Reivers break 3 school records and claimed 14 national qualifiers for the NJCAA National Track and Field Meet this coming March at Pittsburg State, Kansas



         The field events started off the day at 11 a.m. with several Reivers qualifying for the indoor national meet.  French Freshman Salome` Brugier breaks school record in the pole vault and takes number one spot in NJCAA ranks with a jump of (3.33m). Sophomore Kelsey Hurley tied for first in the women's high jump (1.70m) with a near miss at (1.79m) which would have been a new school record. Transfer sophomore form South Plains Shanice Lewis takes number one spot in the long jump with a jump (5.75m). Sophomore Karen Desgraves took the win in the women's triple jump (10.85m), solidifying her spot to the indoor national meet.  On the men's side, freshman David Ejumenta took the win in the long jump and triple jump and qualified for the indoor national meet and taking the number one spot in the NJCAA ranks. Freshman Marcus Klein had a PR in the long jump and missed qualifying for the national meet by 5cm.  In the men's shot put and weight throw Nadir McLaurin, Joe Kurtz, Kirby Delgato Andy Miesbach and Micheal Hess all had PR’s.


The running events started at 1:00 p.m. with several other Reivers qualifying for indoor national meet. Freshman Vincent Gordon and Jordan Minnis bout had great meets and ran PR’s and qualified for the National meet in the 60m Vincent ran at time of 6.85 taking the number six spot in the ranks. Jordan ran a time of (6.81) good for the third spot in the ranks. Sophomore Jalayzha Turner-Ford opens of the season with a PR in the 60m with a time of (7.83). Jumper Karen Desgraves also opens up the season with a 60m PR with a time of (7.92).Sophomore Chyna Watson-Reid opens up her season with the 400m running (60.66) just missing national qualifying time by .6 Transfer Sophomore from South Plains Saqukine Cameron opens up her Reiver career with an event she has never ran the 600m and runs a (1:41.04) just missing national qualifying time by .06. Sophomore Shanieke Watson the defending 3000m Steeplechase champion opens up here season with the fastest NJCAA time in the mile with (5:22.16). Sophomore Dasia Sander set the tone for the season with a time of (9:11.) in the 60mh. Shanice Lewis one of the transfer girls from South Plains had a one of the best meets of her life after coming off the long jump where she opened up her season with (5.75m) the best she has ever started off any season was not finished yet with the 60mh left. She runs at time of (8.78) breaking the school record and taking the number three spot on the NJCAA leaderboard. The break out performance come from Sophomore Tremayne Flagler after a disappointing freshman season due to a major leg injury opens up the season with blazing times in the 60m and 60mh in the 60m he runs a (6.80) putting him in the second spot on the leaderboard and in the 60mh he runs a time of (8.06) breaking a school record and land him in the number spot on the NJCAA leaderboards.
