Jayhawk Classic- 2017
The Iowa Western track and field team traveled to Lawrence, Kansas on Thursday and Friday to partake in the two day Jayhawk Classic indoor track and field invitational. In the women’s field events, Partia Vaimaona moved up the NJCAA national ranks to 2nd place with a new personal best and school record in the weight throw (17.56m). On the running side, Shanice Lewis placed second in the women’s 60H running and new PR and School Record of (8.73). This marked moved her up to 5th place in the NJCAA national rankings. Dasia Sanders had a great race running her fastest time all season (9.01) Detrich Lodge placed an impressive third in the women’s 60m hurdles with a mark of 9.10 seconds. Transfer Saqukine Cameron breaks the school record in the 200m with a time (24.51), Chevelle Hunte jumps a qualifying mark of (1.63m) .
In the men’s running events, Freshman Vincent Gordon continues his success with a time of (21.66) in the 200m.Sopphomore Tremayne Flagler breaks the school record again in the 60H with a time of (7.99) and 3rd on the NJCAA leader board. Freshman Renardo Wilson wins the 600y with a time of (1:11.89) and with that time he is sitting in the number 1 spot on the NJCAA Leaderboard. The men’s 4x400 relay takes second to the Jayhawks with a time of (3:15.73).
The Reivers had a successful meet out in Lawrence, Kansas and have made a lot of progress as a team. Currently, the men’s team is ranked 5th in the NJCAA, while the women are ranked 4th nationally. The Iowa Western track and field team will hit the track next Friday and Saturday. The team will split up between the Husker’s Frank Sevigne Invitational on Friday, February 3th and Saturday, February 4th. The rest of the team will go to the Fred Biele Invite at Doane College on Saturday, February 4th.
